Both of these poems are wonderful and inspirational. Makes me want to do great things with my earth-life, which include making my spirit great. Aren’t we all just “spiritual being having an earthly experience” anyway? Invictus talks of not bowing before man and Soul’s Captain is about bowing before God. With that combination of strengths, you can’t help but succeed. Working hard makes you a great man. Humility before God, He makes more out of you than you ever could by yourself. Reminds me of the adage:
“Pray as if everything depended on God and work as if everything depended on you.”

I am glad I came across this web site. I was searching for the quote, “Thou hast put an upward reach into the heart of man.” I would like to get a copy of the entire poem. I now know it was written by Harry Kemp. I guess I could just go buy a book that it is in. Where was it originally published?

Lance, I’m sorry to hear about your friend. Life is so fragile and losing friends reminds us to cherish it.
My family and I were in a serious car accident a few months ago. That experience was a great reminder to me to take advantage of each moment with others.

This is so meaningful today, after losing a good friend to cancer this past week.

It makes these things called our “moments”, it makes them just that much more meaningful. And what you have shared today, it just adds to all of that, for me.

Really loved this one. I’ve been really touched by the Christmas spirit this year. I really do think it is all about service and all about being more Christ like in my life. If I can’t accomplish that during the holiday season, no gift will every make up for it.
