The Two Principles For Being More Productive

Everyday you should accomplish something important. It is essential to success, happiness and fulfillment that each of us learns how to be productive every day. I'm not talking about running around like crazy, worried, and stressed out. I mean really getting great things done. Too many of us go for days, weeks, months, and even years without really producing anything. It's time to change that.

Fact: We All Have 24 Hours/ Day

Being productive with your time is one of the most important things you can do in life. We all have 24 hours, and it is the most precious resource we have! And we are all equally wealthy. The wealthiest person in the world has 24 hours, as well as the poorest person in the world. So in that most precious resource, which is time, we are all equal.

What we do with it is what matters so much!

We both know people who seem to get so much more done in the same 24 hours! How do they do that?! And how can you and I be more productive? For me personally, the biggest thing I want to focus on in my life is time freedom! I want time freedom even more than money freedom. Because the most valuable thing for me is to spend time with my family, to spend it doing good, to spend it learning, to spend it improving, and living life to the fullest. Time freedom matters so much.

The question is how can we do this?

There are two main principles:

#1: Don't Waste Time

Benjamin Franklin said:
“Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of.”

Thorow said:
“As if we can kill time, without injuring eternity”.

These are two heavy and powerful ideas. So do not waste time, be intense about this, be purposeful about this, and do not let other people waste your time. Well, it doesn’t mean that you have to be busy all the time, that is not always the best use of time. We need some down time which is a perfect lead into the second principle.

#2: You Have Got to Protect Your Energy Levels

There is a phenomenal book called “The Power of Full Engagement”. And here’s an argument that I agree with:
“As much as time or even most of the time we have to guard our energy levels.”

Because what if we have time and we don’t have enough energy to even live well in that moment, to do our work well, to be fully present; for your wife, for your husband, and for your children. Thus, we have got to guard our energy. In order to be productive, we have to guard the use of our time. And you can follow this simple rule 50/10. Which means that you work intensely for 50 minutes and then take a 10 minute break or a recovery which fit with the energy. You have got to eat well, you have to exercise regularly, you have got to push hard, and then recover. Life is More Like Sprinting Life is more like sprinting. We need to have the mind, the spirit, and the emotional strength of an Olympic sprinter. You get in your work, you get that done well, and then you rest and recover.

Make sure you are getting out and living life.

Make sure you are doing things that just light your fire, keep you energized, and alive.

Being productive is so critical, and these two elements will make all the difference.

Guard your time. Do what you do best and do it well.

Make sure your energy levels are awesome. Make sure you are awake, energized, and alive!

If you do those two things and just live by them everyday, you will be amazed with how much you can accomplish and how much you can produce.
